James Bond is officially back in games, and this time, he’s younger, rawer, and not yet the suave 00 we know. IO Interactive and Amazon MGM Studios have revealed 007 First Light, a third-person action-adventure set to launch in 2026 across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (Steam + Epic), and Nintendo Switch 2. The game was announced during Sony’s latest PlayStation State of Play.
A Reimagined Beginning for Bond
007 First Light reimagines the origin of the world’s most famous secret agent. Players will step into the boots of a 26-year-old Royal Navy crewman, just as he’s recruited into MI6 and thrown into the elite (and newly resurrected) 00 program. It’s the first time fans will get to experience Bond’s transformation from soldier to spy, with the freedom to choose between stealth, charm, or brute force to complete missions.
Signature Stealth Meets Cinematic Espionage
Coming from the team behind the HITMAN series, First Light promises to blend IO’s mastery of stealth with Bond’s iconic gadgets and international intrigue. Players can expect a mix of high-stakes espionage, globe-trotting missions, and character-driven storytelling, all delivered with the studio’s polished third-person gameplay.
Familiar names like M, Q, and Moneypenny will return, alongside new faces including Bond’s mentor John Greenway and an enigmatic figure known only as Isola. Fans who sign up for an IOI account will unlock an exclusive in-game item at launch.
A Bond Game for a New Generation
IO’s 007 First Light is an origin story with something to prove, and the team seems ready to push the boundaries of what a Bond game can be. It’s also being built from the ground up as a single-player, story-first experience—not a movie tie-in, not a multiplayer shooter.
With a fresh narrative, stylish gameplay, and IOI’s creative pedigree, 007 First Light might just be the reinvention Bond games have been waiting for.
