SEGA has debuted a brand-new gameplay trailer for Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles 2, revealing new mechanics and customization features ahead of its worldwide launch on August 5, 2025, for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. Players who pre-order the Digital Deluxe Edition will receive early access starting July 31.
The trailer introduces a host of new systems that build on the flashy anime-fighting formula of the original game, adding fresh depth and replayability for fans and newcomers alike.
What’s New in Hinokami Chronicles 2?
- Dual Ultimates: Certain character pairings can now unleash tag-team ultimate attacks, triggering cinematic finishers that show the strength of their bond. Whether you’re playing solo or online, these new moves add an extra layer of spectacle to fights.
- Gear System: For the first time in the series, players can equip up to three items on each character. These unlockable gear pieces offer passive benefits like poison resistance or HP regeneration, letting players tailor their fighters to specific matchups in both Story and VS Modes.
- Training Paths: Test your skills against the elite Hashira in a new challenge mode that pits players against tournament-style brackets. Each bracket includes unique victory conditions, encouraging adaptation and mastery with every fight.
- The Path of a Demon Slayer: This mode revisits major battles from The Hinokami Chronicles 1, offering a compact recap of the anime’s early arcs — from Unwavering Resolve through the Mugen Train Arc.
- Character Mastery System: Players can now increase the Mastery Level of each fighter by using them in battle. Mastery unlocks cosmetics such as stickers and background visuals that can be used to customize your Slayer ID, the online player profile.
