The Hundred Line -Last Defense Academy- Update Adds “Extreme & Despair” Difficulty Mode

A free update for The Hundred Line -Last Defense Academy- is now live on Nintendo Switch, introducing new quality-of-life improvements, expanded battle options, and a punishing new “Extreme & Despair” difficulty mode for those looking to suffer gloriously in the name of saving the world.

Released earlier this year on April 24, The Hundred Line is a strategy RPG developed by TooKyo Games (Danganronpa) and Media.Vision (Wild Arms), blending character-driven narrative drama with grid-based tactical combat. This latest version 1.1.1 patch is available for free and aims to make replays more rewarding—and more painful.

Here’s what’s included in the update:

  • “Extreme & Despair” Difficulty Mode
Enemies hit harder, play smarter, and make every battle a life-or-death struggle. This new setting applies exclusively to combat, not story segments.
  • Battle Skips for Replay Routes
Already cleared a battle? You can now skip it entirely when playing through alternate story routes, making replaying different paths more streamlined.
  • New Chapter Select Option
Players can now jump to the scene directly before a key decision, speeding up exploration of branching choices.
  • QoL Improvements & Bug Fixes
Based on community feedback, the update includes a range of minor fixes and enhancements to improve overall gameplay flow.

A Game Worth Revisiting

The Hundred Line mixes emotional teen drama with life-or-death defense strategy as players take on the role of Takumi Sumino, tasked with protecting a school for 100 days against an overwhelming unknown force. The game features a deeply branching narrative with multiple endings and tough moral choices, making this update especially appealing for players revisiting the game to see other outcomes.

The game is available physically and digitally on Nintendo Switch in North America via XSEED Games, with a PC version published globally by Aniplex on Steam.
