Absolum Trailer Reveals Bold New Beat ‘Em Up Adventure Ahead of October Launch

Publisher Dotemu, alongside co-developers Guard Crush Games and Supamonks, has unveiled a new gameplay trailer for their upcoming fantasy beat ’em up, Absolum. Launching October 9 on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4, the game blends classic brawling action with modern design elements like meta progression, build customization, and branching pathways.

Meet the Warriors of Talamh

The trailer highlights Absolum’s four playable fighters, each with their own unique combat style and story:

  • Galandra, an agile swordfighter.
  • Karl, a dwarf with unmatched tank-like resilience.
  • Cider, a shadowy rogue.
  • Brome, a mage harnessing deadly magic.

Players can break enemy guards, unleash devastating super attacks, and experiment with buffs like elemental enhancements to expand their arsenal. Inns scattered across the land offer valuable treasures to help survive the game’s brutal encounters.

A Rich World Filled with Peril

The footage also introduces a vibrant new area, lush, green landscapes patrolled by dangerous Gnolls, culminating in a towering boss fight that could bring any run to a sudden end. With each playthrough, Absolum offers new opportunities to explore, unlock quests, and upgrade characters permanently.

Branching paths, narrative quests, and unique world-building give Absolum depth beyond its arcade inspirations. The story follows a rebellion against the Sun King Azra, a tyrant who seeks to dominate all sources of magic. Empowered by mythical mentors and forbidden spells, players must challenge Azra’s regime and uncover the mysteries behind his growing power.

An All-Star Collaboration

Absolum is supported by an original soundtrack from Gareth Coker (Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Halo Infinite), featuring collaborations with Mick Gordon (DOOM Eternal), Yuka Kitamura (Elden Ring), and Motoi Sakuraba (Eiyuden Chronicle). Animation studio Supamonks brings the cast and world to life, enhancing the game’s cinematic scope.

Dotemu and Guard Crush Games, known for revitalizing the genre with Streets of Rage 4, are once again pushing brawler design into fresh territory with a run-based fantasy adventure that promises both accessibility and endless replayability.
