Erosion Revealed: A Timeshifting Open-World Roguelike Where Every Death Costs a Decade

Publisher Lyrical Games and developer Plot Twist have revealed Erosion, a timeshifting open-world roguelike set in a post-apocalyptic Wild West, during today’s Xbox Partner Preview. The game launches in Spring 2026 in Early Access for Steam, Xbox on PC, and Xbox Game Pass.

A reveal trailer accompanied the announcement, offering the first look at Erosion’s chaotic twin-stick action, full-world destructibility, and its decade-jumping twist: every time players die, ten years pass—reshaping the world, characters, factions, and even the fate of the hero’s daughter.

A Race Against Time in a World Devoured by the Pillar

Erosion drops players into a distant future where civilization is consumed by a sentient rock formation known as the Pillar. To save the protagonist’s daughter, players must descend into the Pillar’s procedurally destructive dungeons, battling enemies and bosses through bullet-frenzy combat while making decisions that permanently influence the timeline.

Plot Twist CEO Tomasz Gawlikowski describes the game as a story-driven experience built on emotional stakes:

“Every time you die in Erosion’s bullet frenzy battles, you can come back, but several years will have passed for the world around you… making saving your daughter all the more emotional.”

A Wild West Reborn Across Decades

Outside the Pillar, players explore a sprawling wasteland where towns evolve, factions rise or fall, and even peaceful farms may transform into cult compounds depending on your choices and your deaths. With customizable vehicles, side stories, gambling dens, bounties, and environmental secrets, the world changes dramatically with every jump forward in time.

Lyrical Games Head Blake Rochkind emphasized the studio’s ambition:

“When we understood the breadth of experience Plot Twist had in mind for Erosion… we knew we had to support their vision.”

Features: Wild Creativity Meets Wild Destruction

Experience Every Possible Future

Death advances the world by a decade. Towns transform, characters age, factions evolve, and stories branch across generations. Eventually, players can manipulate the full timeline and rewrite outcomes.

Explore an Open-World Wasteland

Join cults, gamble at the Al Cashino, fish for sand creatures, race across the salt flats, or duel for glory. Completing quests unlocks permanent upgrades that carry across timelines.

Absurd Build Variety

Dozens of weapons from ritual blood bows to homing smart guns to the legendary Ebony Rooster combine with 100+ skills and modifiers to create wildly chaotic builds. Whether it’s summoning cats or deploying orbital turrets, problems are encouraged.

Break Everything

Voxel-based environments ensure that cover never lasts. Walls, buildings, furniture, everything can be blasted into rubble as physics-driven destruction merges with intense bullet-hell combat.
