ACE Team and Nacon have announced that their upcoming cooperative horror adventure, The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu, will launch on July 15, 2026. The game will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
The announcement follows the game’s initial reveal and gameplay preview shown during the Xbox Showcase< last November. Alongside the release date, the developers shared a new trailer highlighting the game’s cooperative exploration, psychological horror, and the dangers that await players deep within a cursed jungle.
A Cooperative Expedition Into Cosmic Horror
Inspired by the cosmic horror works of H. P. Lovecraft, The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu places players in the role of explorers during the Conquistador era, embarking on dangerous expeditions to an uncharted continent rumored to hold unimaginable wealth.
Players begin each expedition aboard a galleon where El Capitán assigns them a contract. These missions can involve gathering valuable treasures, searching for a missing person, or locating an ancient fort hidden somewhere within the island’s dense jungle. However, returning alive may prove far more difficult than completing the mission itself.
Teams of two to four players must work together as they venture inland, navigating hostile environments and uncovering new areas while racing against time. The longer an expedition lasts, the more dangerous the island becomes, as hostile creatures begin to emerge in greater numbers.
Survival Through Strategy and Cooperation
Unlike traditional action-focused adventures, The Mound emphasizes survival and careful resource management. Players are limited by a small inventory and basic weaponry, which encourages avoiding conflict whenever possible. Cooperation becomes essential as teams decide how to divide resources, when to retreat, and how to handle encounters with unknown threats.
Exploration also plays a major role in each run. Discovering new paths and hidden locations can lead to valuable treasure, but every step deeper into the jungle increases the risk of encountering something far more dangerous.
Madness Lurks in the Jungle
One of the game’s most unique mechanics is the gradual loss of sanity experienced by the explorers. As players encounter cosmic horrors beyond comprehension, their perception of reality begins to fracture.
Hallucinations can cause players to see their allies as terrifying monsters or mistake hostile creatures for companions. Harmless terrain may suddenly appear deadly, bushes may seem alive, and players might even experience bizarre events like a sudden rain of blood. These psychological effects make teamwork increasingly difficult as expeditions progress.
If players manage to survive and return to the ship, El Capitán will reward them for their efforts, but the expedition never truly ends. New contracts and new dangers will always await.
