How to Get the Exclusive Starlight Keyblade in Kingdom Hearts III

Even though it won’t be out until January 29th, you can already nab an exclusive Keyblade for your playthrough of Kingdom Hearts III. The only way to get the special “Starlight” Keyblade is through Kingdom Hearts Union Cross, also known as the Kingdom Hearts mobile game. If you’ve never played the game, don’t worry! You don’t actually need to jump into the story to unlock the Keyblade. Instead, click the “ex tres” option on the Union Cross’s title screen, then go to the “Classic Kingdom” section.

Here you’ll be presented with five different Game-and-Watch-esque minigames. Each minigame has a high-score shown at the top left of the screen. You’ll officially qualify to receive the Starlight Keyblade after beating each game’s high-score, which isn’t actually as daunting as it seems.

The most important thing to remember is that your scores for every attempt on each game are cumulative. This means that if you were to play “The Musical Farmer” twice and get 500 points each time, you would have 1000 points in total. This makes beating the high scores less of a difficult task and more of a time-consuming one. Here are some tips for each game to make it a bit less time-consuming.

The Musical Farmer (High Score: 5000)

This game is all about multi-tasking. I recommend doing “Game A” repeatedly, as it’s a bit easier to keep track of. For this one, you change the direction of the pipes on the left and right of the screen to keep any eggs from breaking. As the eggs fall into the three baskets on the ground, you’ll have to empty them by passing them off to each side of the screen. If you empty the basket while an egg is mid-air above it, you’ll get the points for that airborne egg along with the eggs in the basket. Keep in mind that you can turn pipes while eggs are in them, which might become necessary as the eggs fall faster. Otherwise, my advice is simply to focus on the pipes, and only occasionally check and empty the baskets. You get points for emptying the baskets, but you lose lives for every egg broken. Rack up the eggs, dump the baskets when they’re full, and you’ll be one step closer to getting Starlight.

Fishin’ Frenzy (High Score: 7500)

This is one of the more fun games. You can move your fishing hook left and right while going between three different depths. “No Fishing” signs will cut your line, while the large fish in the background will eat you once they reach the foreground. I recommend aiming for the bottom fish whenever possible, as they give you far more points than the others. Remember that you can move left and right while you’re pulling a fish up on your line, as this will keep you from needlessly losing lives to the background fish. Just keep pulling up the big fish, and you’ll beat this one pretty quickly.

Giantland (High Score: 50)

Giantland is pretty fun, though it can be frustrating if you don’t take things somewhat slow. As Sora, you have to sneak past the giant, open the curtain, and swing out the window to meet Mickey. I recommend being patient in this one, as the giant’s patterns aren’t always easy to guess. Getting hit at any point sends you back to the starting position, so be careful and time your movements right. Slow and steady is the best way to get this one done in a timely manner.

The Karnival Kid (High Score: 30,000)

Think of this as an incredibly simplistic Diner Dash. Various Disney characters will appear in the background, demanding specific combinations of food from Sora. My advice is to prioritize the characters with bigger orders, as they’ll give you more points. You have a limited amount of time to fill as many orders as possible, so focus on the full plates (hot dog with ketchup, fries, and a drink) to get points faster. Keep that in mind, and you’ll clear that high score in no time.

The Barnyard Battle (High Score: 25,000)

This is probably the most tedious game, as you simply have to point Sora and Mickey left and right. As enemies traverse the four paths behind Sora and Mickey, you have to hit them as soon as they reach the foreground by hitting the right or left buttons for both characters. Focus on hitting each enemy immediately after they hit the foreground, as this will get you the “Perfect” ranking, which grants you a .1x multiplier with every ten consecutive Perfect hits. Enemies without helmets can jump over the walls that divide each path, but that’s really the only complication in this minigame. Just get into a hitting rhythm and get the Perfect multipliers, and you’ll be done before you know it.

Once you’ve beaten the top scores in all of the minigames, check out the “Limited Offer” option on the “ex tres” menu. While the Starlight codes aren’t available yet, this screen will tell you that you’ve qualified for a code, and that it will notify you when they’re ready. You can only get the Starlight this way for a limited time, so make sure you don’t miss out!
