Square Enix has released a free Final Fantasy Resonance demo across PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam, and Xbox on PC.
The demo covers the game’s opening through the first chapter, giving players around 3-5 hours of gameplay. Save data will carry over to the full game when it launches October 22, 2026.
Sephiroth Joins the Fight
Square Enix also showed a new gameplay trailer during Sony’s State of Play showcase.
The trailer confirmed that Sephiroth will appear in Final Fantasy Resonance. Players will be able to find and challenge him, with a special reward available for those who win.
The First HD-2D Final Fantasy
Final Fantasy Resonance is billed as the first HD-2D game in the Final Fantasy series.
The RPG features turn-based battles with a modern twist, along with Crystals, chocobos, espers, airships, and appearances from familiar Final Fantasy characters including Cloud, Tidus, and the Warrior of Light.
Built From Brave Exvius
Final Fantasy Resonance is based on the first story arc of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius.
Square Enix says the game has been rebuilt and refined for a console-quality RPG format, rather than serving as a straight mobile conversion.
Launching October 22
Final Fantasy Resonance launches October 22, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam, and Xbox on PC.
Pre-orders are available now across all platforms.
