The Wii U will be getting SNES, NES, and GBA games with off TV play and Miiverse functionality this spring, with a special monthly deal (starting right now!) leading up to the 30th anniversary of the Famicom.
The Virtual Console service will be launching alongside a system update some time after March and will not contain all of the titles currently available in the Wii Shop’s library but they will be continuously adding more games to the shop. Additional systems are also planned on being included.
Prices will remain the same between the Wii and Wii U virtual consoles.
If you have already purchased games from the Wii’s Virtual Console and you have transferred the games to your Wii U you will have to pay extra to be able to play them natively on your Wii U. It will set you back $1 for NES games and $1.50 for SNES.
To help build excitement for the launch of the Virtual Console on the eShop and to build up to the 30th anniversary of the Famicom (NES) Nintendo will be selling selected NES and SNES titles for only 30 cents.
The $0.30 deals are as follows:
- January: Balloon Fight (available now)
- February: F-Zero
- March: Punch Out! Featuring Mr. Dream
- April: Kirby’s Adventure
- May: Super Metroid
- June: Yoshi
- July: Donkey Kong
These games will remain available at the low price of 30 cents for just thirty days so be sure to grab ’em while they’re hot.
