Amplitude Studios, the developers of everything endless, have announced a follow-up title to their 4X turn-based fantasy strategy game Endless Legend. Along with the follow-up, they’ve announced that the title will enter Steam Early Access this Summer.
Originally announced earlier this year, Endless Legend 2 is a follow-up to the 2014 release. Taking place in the greater ENDLESS universe, Endless Legend 2 carries on the legacy of the first game through its many factions and its evolving world. I absolutely loved the first game, the 4X strategy style pairs well with the bizarre and deep storytelling that comes off as both chaotic but beautiful. The gameplay trailer shows a huge upgrade from the 2014 release, which is kind of a no duh statement, but Endless Legend 2 looks considerably better from their most recent 4X offering, Humankind. Remaining with the hex system, Endless Legend 2 has a gorgeous graphical style that looks better and more alien than any of their previous releases.
Each faction will have its own unique mechanics, units, and storylines as they explore, exploit, expand, and exterminate their way across the lands of Saiadha. Players will have to contend with regular Tidefall events – geological disasters that see the oceans recede, revealing new lands to conquer and opening up new routes and pathways which will bring new opportunities, and new dangers.
Over the past few weeks Amplitude Studios has been releasing information about the factions you’ll be able to play in Endless Legend 2. Revealed so far for the Early Access build are The Aspects and The Kin of Sheredyn.
Endless Legend 2 Faction – The Aspects
In terms of gameplay, the Aspects are an economic and diplomatic empire focused on cooperation over conquest. Their main unique trait is their coral terrain – Instead of claiming territories via outposts, the Aspects first place Coral Spores that will slowly spread coral to other tiles. These can be turned into cities, but they also serve as nodes for coral growth across the map. This can help Aspect cities grow and extract dust from their surroundings, as well as offer military benefits by enabling faster healing and movement. Aspect armies can even cross water tiles that have coral.
Endless Legend 2 Faction – The Kin of Sheredyn
The Kin of Sheredyn are strangers to the world of Saiadha. Descendants of an expedition sent by a mighty interstellar empire, they arrived decades ago to explore the ocean planet and establish a new colony. Instead, they found themselves stranded, beset on all sides by devastating storms and relentless Necrophage attacks. Their charismatic leader, Commander Garin, disappeared many years ago and has ascended into myth – the lost hero who will one day return to save the Kin from their enemies.
It looks like Amplitude Studios plans on releasing more information about their launch factions over the coming months leading up to the Steam Early Access release. If you’re interested in participating even earlier than that, Amplitude offers an Amplitude Insiders Program.
