At PAX East 2025, NEXON took the wraps off Season 3: Breakthrough for The First Descendant, a mega-update launching this summer that’s poised to redefine the free-to-play looter-shooter’s scope. With Hover Bikes, open-field raids, a new social Lounge, and the game’s first NieR: Automata crossover, this next chapter promises to be a major turning point.
The reveal came via a live developer panel hosted by Executive Producer Beomjun Lee and Creative Director Minseok Joo, who walked fans through every new addition—and teased even more coming in future episodes.
Axion Plains – A Massive New Battlefield
Season 3’s star attraction is the Axion Plains, a devastated new open field teeming with mutated beasts and artificial threats. Once a thriving outpost, the area has been transformed by a Void Storm and now serves as the setting for new large-scale content.
To help players navigate the vast terrain, Hover Bikes are being introduced—high-speed vehicles with boost and jump abilities. Standard models will be free for all Season 3 players, with upgraded versions available via exploration.
Colossus Field Raid – Mount Up for Massive Mayhem
Taking full advantage of the Axion Plains’ scale, The First Descendant introduces the Colossus Field Raid, an 8-player activity featuring a towering new boss: the Wall Crasher. Players will ride Hover Bikes across the battlefield to engage in large-scale, coordinated combat—a first for the game.
New Social Hub: The Lounge
A major quality-of-life feature arrives in the form of The Lounge, a customizable personal space where players can:
- Display and interact with Descendants
- Place collectible figures and themed furniture
- Customize character skins in a cozy non-combat environment
It’s a chance to unwind and personalize your experience between firefights.
Nell Joins the Fight – And a Love Story Begins
Former NPC Nell becomes a playable Descendant in Season 3. With stylish telekinetic sphere attacks and the ability to turn all gunfire into weak-point strikes, she’s built for aggressive play. Meanwhile, a budding romance subplot between Enzo and Nell adds emotional weight to the campaign.
Also returning: Karel, a key character whose reappearance marks a turning point in the game’s overarching story.
Swords, Skins, and a Showdown with NieR
Players will finally wield swords in Season 3, with three variants launching across two episodes. The first, the Shadow Blade, lets players perform iaijutsu-style dashes. A sword-themed dungeon will debut alongside it, followed by new greatsword and lightsaber-style weapons.
Meanwhile, The First Descendant’s first crossover features characters and content from NieR: Automata. A full trailer is coming soon, but key visuals already confirmed the collaboration is real—and more IP partnerships are planned.
Prime Cosmetics and Anniversary Fest Incoming
- Yujin and Luna get Ultimate forms, with new builds centered around debuffs and rhythm mechanics.
- A new “Gilded Death Blossom” skin arrives May 22.
- TFD Fest, a full anniversary event in July, will include in-game events, a skin design contest, and community spotlights.
With Season 3 split into multiple episodes, The First Descendant is committing to a long-haul roadmap of meaningful, community-informed updates.
