Capcom has officially lifted the curtain on Resident Evil Requiem, the ninth mainline installment in the legendary Resident Evil series. Launching February 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, Requiem is shaping up to be the franchise’s most immersive horror experience yet — and one that hits just in time for Resident Evil’s 30th anniversary.
In a special update, the dev team, including Director Koshi Nakanishi and Art Director Tomonori Takano, emphasized the return to core survival horror, describing the game’s tone as “addictive fear.” Requiem allows players to switch freely between first- and third-person views, letting them tailor the scares to their own style — whether that’s intense, claustrophobic tension in first-person or more strategic action with the classic over-the-shoulder view.
Meet Grace Ashcroft – The Most Relatable Resident Evil Hero Yet
For the first time in the series, players will control Grace Ashcroft, a rookie FBI analyst who’s introverted, cautious, and not your typical zombie-slaying badass. Though Grace is highly trained and analytical, she starts her journey just as afraid as the player, making her fear feel grounded and real. The development team even used a custom wig to nail the realistic physics of her hair, and paid attention to facial details like flushed cheeks when she’s hanging upside down. It’s a level of detail aimed at making Grace one of the most human characters in Resident Evil history.
A Legacy-Fueled Story Set 30 Years After Raccoon City
Set three decades after the fall of Raccoon City, Resident Evil Requiem serves as both a continuation and reflection. The game acts as a spiritual eulogy to the countless lives affected by the original t-virus outbreak, promising story beats that longtime fans won’t want to miss. And with the game launching just before the franchise’s official 30th anniversary in March 2026, Capcom is clearly aiming to deliver a milestone title worthy of the occasion.
