Nexon celebrated the one-year anniversary of The First Descendant with its biggest showcase yet: Descendant Fest 2025, a livestream packed with future content, community stats, new trailers, and a major crossover with NieR: Automata. Headlining the event was the reveal of Season 3: Breakthrough, launching August 7, which introduces a sprawling new field, a high-stakes 8-player raid, a telekinetic new Descendant, and much more.
One of the show’s biggest surprises was the NieR: Automata crossover, which brings fan-favorites 2B and A2 into the world of The First Descendant. Their iconic outfits, animations, and decorations will be available in-game for a limited time, offering fans a chance to merge the gritty, android-driven action of NieR with Nexon’s looter-shooter combat.
Ride into the Future with Season 3
Launching in August, Season 3: Breakthrough transports players to Axion Plains, an expansive new field filled with dungeons, large-scale battles, and the Colossus Field Raid—an 8-player activity featuring the slow but devastating Wall Crasher. Players can now ride the new Hover Bike, making exploration of Axion faster and flashier than ever.
Also debuting is Nell, a new Descendant who uses telekinesis to mark and damage enemies while supporting allies with shields and buffs. Her versatility makes her ideal for both solo and co-op strategies, offering new depth to team composition.
Players eager to try out the new content can jump into the Breakthrough Demo starting July 24, a time-limited preview that lets players test Nell, ride the Hover Bike, and face the Wall Crasher early.
Anniversary Stats, Events, and Roadmap
The dev team shared a community infographic during the presentation, highlighting total playtime, regional stats, and the most popular Descendants and Colossi. Beginning July 3, players will also be able to view their personal anniversary stats on the official website.
To mark the occasion, The First Descendant is launching a Spotify collaboration, with the game’s full OST arriving on major streaming platforms. Logging in after the July 3 update will net players a Spotify Name Card and exclusive Paints. The “Grab the Breakthrough” event will also offer real-world merch and limited-time in-game items.
Looking ahead, the dev team revealed a full roadmap for the rest of 2025, teasing new dungeons, Descendants, and features. Nexon also launched a Companion App on iOS and Android, letting players track research progress, item sources, and receive in-game alerts on the go, with more interactive features planned for future updates.
Helping New Players Catch Up
To welcome newcomers and returning players, Nexon is launching two new systems with Season 3:
- Descendant Boost Up: Jump directly to Hard Mode’s Sigma Sector with appropriate gear and settings.
- Descendant Boost Path: A guided step-by-step system that explains key mechanics, gear, and progression.
Combined, they’re designed to lower the barrier to entry and let players experience endgame content faster.
As Nexon continues building The First Descendant into a long-term experience, they’re also deepening community engagement. The official Discord has become a hub for feedback and discussion, where players can share ideas and see their suggestions reflected in future patches.
