Drinkbox Studios Shares Blighted Summer Development Update and Teases What’s Next

Drinkbox Studios is keeping busy this summer with major progress updates on its upcoming nightmare action-adventure, Blighted. First revealed during Summer Game Fest 2025, the game has already gone through an internal alpha milestone. The team has built out a full version of the game internally and is now restructuring it to refine combat loops, add juicier challenges, and sharpen the overall experience.

Blighted enemies

Drinkbox notes that a wave of new enemies has been added, each with its own deadly quirks, while programmers are working to ensure the game shines visually and technically. On the audio side, acclaimed composer Jim Guthrie continues to deliver haunting tracks that match the game’s grim tone.

Fine-Tuning Combat and Creative Chaos

The team emphasized that Blighted won’t just match the high bar of Guacamelee! or Nobody Saves the World, but push beyond it. Combat is being fine-tuned for variety and depth, while every new object is treated as an opportunity for artists to create fresh, nightmarish designs. The end goal is an action game that’s as visually disturbing as it is mechanically rewarding.

Mutant Blobs Attack Soundtrack Coming to Steam

While the team is hard at work on their next big game, Drinkbox hasn’t forgotten their roots. The studio is preparing to release the soundtrack for Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack on Steam. The music, composed by Peter Chapman and Shaun Hatton, remains a high-energy fan favorite — what Drinkbox describes as “a shot of caffeine directly into your earlobes.”

Life at Drinkbox: Team Activities and Summer Sale

Beyond development, the studio recently got together for a chaotic team-building outing filled with basketball, dodgeball, and plenty of laughter. They capped the day off with their biggest team photo yet, marking how much Drinkbox has grown over the years.

As a thank-you to fans for their ongoing support, Drinkbox has also put their entire Steam catalog on sale this summer — the perfect chance to revisit their classics while waiting for Blighted.
