The First Descendant’s Latest Update Brings Swords, New Dungeon, and Balance Revamps

Nexon has rolled out a major Season 3 update for its sci-fi looter-shooter The First Descendant, introducing the game’s first melee weapon class: Swords, alongside a brand-new Void Vessel Dungeon, a fiery Void Intercept Battle: Abyss, and three powerful new Trigger Modules. The patch also delivers sweeping balance changes, major quality-of-life improvements, and a long-awaited rework for fan-favorite Descendant Kyle.

Slice Into Battle With the New Sword Weapon Class

For the first time, players can wield Swords as a dedicated weapon class. Two new blades, Shadow and Deus Ex Manus, headline the update, each offering unique abilities like Shadow Slash and defensive mechanics that set melee combat apart from firearms. Players can further refine swordplay through exclusive modules and External Components, opening new avenues for melee-focused builds.

Explore the Void Vessel Dungeon: Medium-Sized Facility Zone

The update adds the Medium-Sized Facility Zone, a new dungeon available in both Normal and Hard difficulties. This Void Vessel Dungeon combines unique boss mechanics with Hover Bike racing segments, complete with boost and jump pads for high-speed traversal. At its core awaits the Arche Slayer, a high-mobility boss wielding deadly sword techniques that tie directly into the new weapon class.

Rewards include new swords, modules, and External Components, with higher drop rates available on Hard mode.

New Trigger Modules to Experiment With

Players can now expand their builds with three brand-new Trigger Modules:

  • Supply Fortress – Generates ammo and adds reflect damage when barriers absorb hits, especially effective with high-power weapons.
  • Wave Eruption – Boosts movement speed and damage output for release-type skills, stacking bonuses as fights progress.
  • Rhythm Step – Exclusive to Luna, enhancing survivability with stacking speed and shield buffs tied to rhythm-type skills.

Face the Void Intercept Battle: Abyss

The new Lava Citadel encounter raises the stakes as a fiery variant of the Molten Fortress. Players must contend with flame tornadoes, expanding AoE fire attacks, and waves of lava that push toward the center of the battlefield. Success relies on precision movement and ice-based attacks to counter its devastating fire power.

Several QoL improvements aim to streamline progression:

  • Amorphous Materials can now be opened directly in Albion.
  • Reactor optimization conditions have been removed for more flexible builds.

A major balance update also rolled out:

  • Kyle gets a complete rework with extended dashes, mid-air combos, deployable barriers, and a stronger ultimate.
  • Ajax now deals more skill damage and offers better firearm buffs.
  • Esiemo can use skills while sprinting with improved AoE power.
