Team 17 and developer Lichthund announced Rockbeasts today, a management sim where you’ll manage a band. Management isn’t just about booking gigs and making sure your band gets to the venue; it’s also about keeping your band happy and filling in for absent members.
I was a band manager shortly after graduating high school, and I can say with certainty, it was… weird. Lichthund, developers of Lichtspeer, understand that dealing with bands is about dealing with big egos. I’m not sure how much of the game involves venue owners who don’t want to pay up or are only paying you in drink tickets (usually less than promised), but I imagine if there’s any truth to the storytelling for Rockbeasts, that’ll be important.
Rockbeasts boasts a fully voiced game and promises appearances by well-known rock figures, including Iggy Pop, who is apparently confirmed for a role.
Being a band manager is more than just booking gigs and deciding what is the best tune to get the masses hooked, it’s about dealing with big egos, spoiled brats and a lot of sticky venues. It’s a thankless job but you’ve got what it takes to get your band out of the grimy basements and onto the big stage.
