Top Hat Studios, in partnership with Slime King Games, has officially launched Under The Island worldwide. The retro-inspired action-adventure RPG is now available on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Xbox consoles.
Blending 90s nostalgia with anime-inspired flair, Under The Island delivers a colorful top-down adventure filled with quirky humor, unusual enemies, and player-driven exploration. The game features vibrant art direction from Simone Grünewald, former art director at Daedalic Entertainment, giving Seashell Island a lively, storybook-inspired look.
A 90s-Inspired Island Adventure
Players step into the role of Nia, a newcomer to the mysterious Seashell Island. Teaming up with a local girl named Avocado, Nia must investigate a looming catastrophe the island is destined to sink beneath the ocean. What begins as a simple exploration quickly unravels into an ancient mystery threatening their new home.
Armed at first with nothing more than a trusty hockey stick, players explore a world packed with secrets and upgrades. Power grows organically through dungeon discoveries, minigames, hidden treasures, and interactions with the island’s eccentric inhabitants, sometimes through friendly trade, and sometimes through less conventional “negotiations.”
Six Distinct Regions Packed with Secrets
Seashell Island is divided into six unique regions, each with its own biome, enemies, and challenges. From the icy heights of Bran Bran Peak, where cereal is mysteriously mined, to tropical villages, eerie greenhouses, chaotic sawmills, frozen caverns, and dusty deserts filled with sentient walking pots, every area encourages curiosity.
Exploration is central to the experience. Players can use tools like a shovel, a trumpet, and even a bird companion to uncover hidden paths and treasures. Along the way, they’ll encounter bizarre foes such as vomiting eggplants and tunneling wolves, which will require creative tactics and the clever use of artifacts and abilities.
Classic Top-Down Action with Personality
Under The Island leans into classic top-down adventure design, combining interconnected world design with vibrant pixel art and modern quality-of-life touches. Side activities range from cook-offs to reuniting lost cats, while befriending animals may unlock unexpected assistance.
A colorful cast of island residents adds personality to the journey, with each character offering their own storylines, quests, and potential rewards.
Under The Island is available now across PC and consoles, inviting players to uncover what truly lies beneath Seashell Island.
