Goose Byte Games and Balor Games have revealed Sponge Break, a chaotic 1-4-player co-op rafting adventure in which players control sponges trying to escape the kitchen sink.
The game sends players down dangerous rapids on a fragile raft that can flip, break apart, and scatter supplies after one bad move. Sponge Break supports drop-in co-op, full solo play, proximity voice chat, and physics-driven traversal.
Escape by Raft, Plunger, and Panic
In Sponge Break, each player is armed with a plunger-hook that can grab objects, pull supplies, and help the crew survive. The raft serves as both transportation and a lifeline, with a shared stash of loot that players will almost certainly lose if someone steers poorly.
The game leans into messy teamwork. Players will solve puzzles, avoid hazards, fight beavers, dodge fire, and try to keep the raft intact long enough to reach the next safehouse.
Sponges That Talk Back
One of Sponge Break’s stranger touches is proximity voice chat paired with sponge lip-syncing. As players yell directions, panic, or blame one another, their sponge characters react accordingly.
The game also includes over 100 cosmetic options, letting players customize eyes, eyebrows, mouths, hats, inflatable buoys, plungers, and emotes.
Playtest Begins Today
The full game will send players through sewers, rivers, abandoned facilities, and other hazard-filled areas, with safehouses between levels for repairs, revives, supplies, and arguments before the next run.
To mark the reveal, Goose Byte Games and Balor Games have opened a Sponge Break playtest today. Invites will roll out in waves through July 28.
