Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV has shared a 30-minute Battlefield Report focused on The Last Stand, its returning three-player horde survival mode. Deep Silver and developer King Art Games detailed the mode’s Commander progression, enemy waves, and new Companion units ahead of the game’s December 3 launch.
The Last Stand retains its cooperative survival format while giving each player a small Strikeforce to command alongside their chosen hero.
Survive 20 Waves With Three Commanders
The Last Stand teams three players against 20 increasingly difficult waves of enemies. You control a Commander who can gain up to 30 levels during a playthrough, earning skills and equipment that increase their combat options.
Surviving means balancing movement, defending important positions, and collecting health supplies between waves. As enemies become tougher, your team’s choices about where to fight and how to stay alive become part of the challenge.
The mode launches with five Commanders representing all four factions. That selection includes separate representatives from the Blood Ravens and Dark Angels Space Marine Chapters. Additional Commanders will arrive after release as free DLC.
Companion Units Add Another Layer of Strategy
New to Dawn of War IV, each Commander leads a Strikeforce of up to four Companion units. These units have their own specializations, giving you more ways to develop your force during a run.
The addition expands the mode beyond managing your Commander’s abilities and equipment. Your Strikeforce brings more units into the fight, creating opportunities to combine their roles with your Commander’s build and your teammates’ forces.
King Art’s extended report demonstrates how those additions fit into the familiar cycle of surviving waves, upgrading your forces, and preparing for the next attack.
December Launch and Year One Plans
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV launches December 3, 2026. Commander Edition buyers receive three days of early access beginning November 30. Both editions currently offer a 10% pre-order discount.
Year One plans include free updates adding Crusade Mode, maps, modes, Commanders, and a Mission Editor. Two major story expansions are also planned, continuing the conflict on Kronus and introducing another playable faction.
