Mafia: The Old Country Launches August 8, Reveals Gameplay and Developer Insights

2K and Hangar 13 have officially announced that Mafia: The Old Country, the next chapter in the long-running crime saga, will launch August 8, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and NVIDIA GeForce NOW. Alongside the release date, the development team premiered an official gameplay trailer and a behind-the-scenes “Breaking Omerta” developer diary, with more insight coming during a dedicated PAX East panel today.

Set in early 20th-century Sicily, Mafia: The Old Country takes the series back to its roots with a tightly-focused, linear narrative following Enzo Favara, a young man navigating loyalty, violence, and ambition as he rises through the ranks of Don Torrisi’s criminal empire. The new footage showcases gritty melee and gunplay, horseback chases, and era-accurate vehicles—all wrapped in Unreal Engine 5-powered visuals that bring the island’s brutal beauty to life.

A New Kind of Mafia Story

“This is a mafia origin story—brutal, grounded, and emotionally resonant,” said Hangar 13 President Nick Baynes. “Our focus on a linear, polished narrative lets us fully explore the intensity of this world without demanding a massive time investment.”

Mafia: The Old Country emphasizes a balance between classic storytelling and modern fidelity, with detailed environments, rich characters, and high-stakes moments that echo the tone of mafia cinema.

Two Editions, One Underworld

The game will be available in both Standard and Deluxe Editions:

  • Standard Edition ($49.99): Full base game.
  • Deluxe Edition ($59.99): Includes the Padrino Pack (bonus weapons, outfits, vehicles, and charms), Gatto Nero Pack (racing-themed content), plus the full digital soundtrack and artbook.

All pre-orders come with the Soldato Pack, which includes exclusive cosmetics, weapons, and a horse.

Mafia: The Old Country marks the first entry in the series built on Unreal Engine 5, and a major return for the franchise following its last release in 2020. With over 38 million units sold, the Mafia series continues to be a cornerstone of narrative-driven gaming.

Pre-orders are now live. For more details, head to mafiagame.com.
