Phil Spencer on OD and Xbox Collaboration

Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer joined Kojima on stage, praising the studio’s 10 years of innovation and confirming that Xbox is working closely with Kojima Productions to bring OD to life. Spencer described the project as “bold, unique, and unmistakably Kojima”, highlighting both the cutting-edge visual fidelity and the unseen infrastructure that’s being developed to support it.

Kojima on Creating a “New System” of Fear

Kojima emphasized that OD isn’t just another horror game. Like how Metal Gear pioneered stealth and Death Stranding redefined connection, Kojima is positioning OD as something entirely different, even describing it as a “system of films and games.”

He introduced the subtitle “Knock,” explaining that the concept revolves around “the fear of the knock.” Kojima noted that his personal fear of the ominous knocking sound inspired this direction. However, he remained cryptic about the significance of other teaser imagery, such as a red door and an eye sticker.

A Glimpse of What’s to Come

The teaser, featuring actress Sophia Lillis, showcased in-engine visuals that Kojima stressed were not cutscenes but real gameplay footage. Kojima mentioned that much of the performance capture work was delayed due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, but development is back on track. He also teased that environments were scanned from real-world “haunted” locations, joking about ghostly activity even in his own studio.

While Kojima stopped short of revealing specific mechanics, he promised OD will deliver a terrifyingly unique experience, warning that players might “do in their pants” from fear.

OD Represents a Bold New Frontier

Closing the presentation, Kojima reiterated that OD is unlike anything he’s ever made, admitting he’s “scared” of how ambitious the project is. Phil Spencer echoed excitement, assuring fans that Xbox is deeply invested in helping Kojima bring his vision to reality.

With its eerie teaser, hints at groundbreaking systems, and Kojima’s signature mystery, OD is shaping up to be one of the most intriguing projects in development.
