Tripwire Presents, alongside developer Arctic Hazard, has announced a delay for NORSE: Oath of Blood, their upcoming Viking-era turn-based tactical RPG. The game will now launch on February 17, 2026, for PC via Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store, with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions arriving later this spring.
According to the development team, the delay will allow additional time to ensure players experience the most polished and authentic Viking tactics experience possible when they first step into the world of dark age Norway.
A Gritty Viking Saga of Vengeance
NORSE: Oath of Blood places players in the role of Gunnar, a young warrior whose life is shattered after the brutal murder of his father, Jarl Gripr, at the hands of the treacherous Steinarr Far-Spear. With his family’s honor stolen and his home usurped, Gunnar embarks on a bloody quest for justice, rebuilding his strength and forging alliances to reclaim what was taken.
Set against the harsh and untamed landscapes of dark age Norway, the game blends tactical combat with settlement-building and narrative-driven decision-making. Every choice shapes Gunnar’s journey, influencing alliances, rivalries, and the fate of his growing warband.
Tactical Combat and Settlement Building
At its core, NORSE: Oath of Blood emphasizes turn-based tactical combat, where positioning, terrain, and timing play a crucial role in survival. Players must carefully command their warriors through strategic skirmishes against rival clans and hostile forces.
Beyond the battlefield, players will construct and manage a Viking settlement, transforming a humble camp into a thriving stronghold. Resource management, recruitment, and training are essential as Gunnar prepares his forces for increasingly dangerous encounters.
A Historically Grounded Experience
NORSE: Oath of Blood aims to deliver a grounded and immersive Viking experience. The narrative is penned by award-winning and Sunday Times bestselling author Giles Kristian, lending historical weight and emotional depth to Gunnar’s story. The game’s atmosphere is further enhanced by a haunting original soundtrack composed by Dan Wakefield, alongside dark pagan neo-folk band Galdorcræft, reinforcing the bleak and brutal tone of the era.
Looking Ahead to Launch
While console players will need to wait a bit longer, PC players can prepare to begin Gunnar’s quest when NORSE: Oath of Blood launches on February 17. Additional updates will be shared through the game’s official social channels as the new release window approaches.
