Arc Games and Snapshot Games have released Into the Abyss, the third and final Early Access content update for Frosthaven. The update is available now on Steam and the Epic Games Store for players who already own the digital adaptation of Isaac Childres and Cephalofair Games’ tactical RPG board game.
This new update adds a fresh storyline built around the Lurkers, along with two new playable heroes, a new pet, and a wide set of gameplay and quality-of-life changes ahead of the game’s full release.
Into the Abyss Adds a New Storyline Beneath the Biting Sea
Into the Abyss expands Frosthaven’s story by sending players into the depths of the Biting Sea, where a powerful ancient artifact has begun sending out visions of unrest. The update pushes the game’s narrative further into the mystery surrounding the Lurkers, as players head above and below the sea in an effort to secure the artifact before it falls into the wrong hands.
The new story content is meant to build on Frosthaven’s broader world while giving players another major thread to follow before the game leaves Early Access.
Two New Heroes Join the Roster
The update also adds two new playable classes. Coral uses the power of the sea to manipulate tides and control battlefield positioning, giving players another option for shaping encounters and managing enemy movement. Kelp, by contrast, leans into stealth and assassination, growing stronger by collecting trophies from defeated enemies.
Together, the two new heroes add more party combinations and tactical variety for players who are deeper into Frosthaven’s campaign.
Outpost Features and Quality-of-Life Improvements Expanded
Outside of the new story and characters, Into the Abyss also makes a number of changes to Frosthaven’s outpost systems. Snapshot says the update improves clarity and progression tracking in the outpost while also adding a new notification system and a calendar feature to make it easier to follow events between quests.
The patch also adds nine new Town Hall challenges, updates the character retirement flow to reduce interruptions during multiplayer sessions, and includes optional Blinkblade card layout settings that reflect the original board game. Combat readability also gets some attention through expanded descriptions tied to advantage state flow and modifier selection.
A New Pet Arrives Too
Players can also track down a new pet named Brummix, described as the final and most difficult pet to obtain in the game. According to Snapshot, only the most observant players will be able to find all the clues needed to unlock it.
